How to Create a WiFi QR Code for Your Home or Business

WiFi QR codes let guests connect to your network by scanning a code instead of typing a password. This is convenient for homes, offices, cafes, hotels, and any place that shares WiFi access.

How WiFi QR Codes Work

A WiFi QR code contains your network name (SSID), password, and encryption type in a standardized format. When scanned, the phone automatically connects to the network without the user typing anything.

The WiFi QR Format

The standard format is: WIFI:T:WPA;S:NetworkName;P:Password;H:false;; where T is the encryption type (WPA, WEP, or nopass), S is the SSID, P is the password, and H indicates whether the network is hidden.

Creating Your WiFi QR Code

Use our WiFi QR Code Generator to create your code. Enter your network name, password, and select the encryption type. Most modern networks use WPA/WPA2. If your network is hidden, check the hidden network option.

Printing and Display Tips

Print the QR code on a card or sign and place it where guests can easily scan it. Include a brief instruction like Scan to connect to WiFi. For businesses, consider framing the code or including it on table tents, menus, or welcome materials.

Security Considerations

Remember that anyone who can see the QR code can connect to your network. For businesses, consider using a separate guest network. Change the WiFi password periodically and update the QR code accordingly. For home use, place the code inside your home rather than in visible locations from outside.
